Recently, a member of Team ShowFilter ran into some a problem while setting up a Slingbox over a secure network. Since there was a lack of information on the web on how to overcome or workaround the issue we thought that we could help by sharing what we learned....
Normally, a new Slingbox is automatically detected on your wireless network after initial setup and software installation. The problem is that (at the time of writing) a Slingbox cannot connect to a secure wireless network with enabled with WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) or WAP (Wi-Fi Protected Access).
There are a few ways to workaround this but by far the simplest method is to remove the password from your network/wireless network. After removing the password the Slingplayer software will automatically detect your Slingbox during setup on a computer connected to the same network (after setup you can connect it to a secured network).
You will want to consider having a separate unprotected network for your Sling-related devices for ease of use while keeping another secured for normal access and browsing.
